Stay healthy during flu season

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

Flu season is officially in full swing! We want our patients to stay as healthy as possible all year round, but armed with the right tools and information to protect themselves during these winter months.

Important tips to stay healthy:

1. Get your flu shot!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone age 6 months and older should get an influenza (flu) vaccine every season with rare exception. Find out more here.

2. Wash your hands often.

Germs live on surfaces for longer than you might think. Good hand washing habits will decrease your risk for catching viral infections.

3. Clean your cell phone.

These days, most people spend several hours per day using their touch screen cell phones. One can forget that their phones can harbor all sorts of germs as we browse the internet, text, and hold the phone to our face. Apple has its recommendations here, and here are some other tips to safely clean your phone at home.

4. If you do get sick, cover your mouth.

Coughing and sneezing are viruses' ways of spreading to a new target. You can do your part to keep others healthy by using tissues, covering your mouth, and avoiding close contact when you are sick. Your friends and neighbors will thank you!
